Rec’d of D.J. Allen fifty seven 95/100 dollars

amt ?? to date Dec 8th 1881

J. A. Tyson

Here we have J. A. Tyson again.  The John Tyson I find living in Center, Stanly County, NC in 1880 is indexed as John H, but I think the H could actually be an A.  John Tyson was a physician in Center.

This post is part of a series of transcriptions of letters, papers, receipts, and other ephemera that are held in the Smith Family Collection.  All originals are held in this collection, unless otherwise stated.

This is to certify that I am to pay ??

Melton eight Dollars for D. J. Allen &

this is to be his receipt against his (Melton’s)

John A. Tyson

Again, I’m not sure of the initials, whether it’s PW Melton (I’m pretty sure that’s what the earlier initials are) or something else entirely.  I can really only find the one Melton family in the area.

John A. Tyson also has me a little stumped.  I can find a John H. Tyson in Centre, Stanly County, NC on the 1880 census.  He was a physician.  I can also find a John Tyson of Ansonville, Anson County, NC which is fairly close.  I don’t have enough information, at this time, to made make a judgement call.
