DJ Allen served as Justice of the Peace for Stanly County for many years. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information on these men or what crime they had committed. Of course, I’m not really experienced in finding these sorts of things.
I did look for them in the Stanly County Court Index 1840-1968 and couldn’t find them. I also couldn’t really find them on the 1880 or 1900 census.
George D. Palmer was evidently the county treasurer though, I can find no record of him either! I did find a George Palmer that passed away in 1939, his occupation was chiropractor. He was also born in 1866 which would make him fairly young. I do not think it’s him. I do know that Isaiah Wilson Snuggs was appointed county treasurer in 1894. I also found this article which says that George D. Palmer was elected/appointed treasurer for the Stanly convention in August 1894. However, this article centered around politics. Specifically, what happened at the eighth judicial district convention.

Before that, he’s in the Stanly News for being on the County Democratic Ticket for Treasurer.
It’s frustrating that most of my ancestors are from rural communities that didn’t do a great job of maintaining newspapers (or didn’t really have them at all).

Here we have again, DJ Allen paying fines for two individuals and George D Palmer writing the receipt.
Yet again, I couldn’t find anything on PW Austin or HT Milton. I don’t know if all these folks just hid a lot or I’m just that tired.
